Businesses that process credit cards are responsible to safeguard the cardholder data. New PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) compliance requirements may catch you by surprise, even if you use a 3rd party to process your payments.

Website security is always paramount, but it gets even more scrutiny when your business manages credit card payments. Be prepared for questions from your processor, like Vanco, inquiring about how your business stores cardholder data online and offline.

Does your business keep paper copies of customer credit card payments? What about data storage on USB drives or backup computers? Who has access to the records?
